a geek’s warfare
A Geek’s Warfare is a game I and some friends create in our free time. It will be a real-time strategy-game based in a fantasy world. A bunch of armies fight for their place on a small island: pirates, ninjas, dodos, forest creatures, orcs, elves, undead, robots, mythical creature and elementals.
Unfortunately, most of us are university students and some of us have jobs too, so there is not much time left to work on this game. What we already have accomplished is a great part of the game design, so we have a clear vision of how this game will be like.
Besides inventing the game concept in the first place and my role as project manager I am also responsible for programming the game’s front end. With this in mind, I am kind of the daddy of this game. 🙂 A Geek’s Warfare was also the reason for renting this server.
On a small island with limited resources ten armies fight for territory: pirates, ninjas, dodos, forest creatures, orcs, elves, undead, robots, mythical creature and elementals. Every army has its own strengths and weaknesses and also own troops, technologies and gods.
A Geek’s Warfare is a 3D realtime-strategy game, designed for both casual and hardcore gamers. The story mode has been designed to serve as a tutorial. The main game mode is the multiplayer mode, where up to ten players can fight against each other or in teams in different game modes.
The special feature of the game is a carefully designed god system. Each army has a god who represents the characteristics of his followers. Players have to please their gods during the game, so that they will help them with magical artifacts, sending natural disaster against their enemies or buffing the troops. If the players don’t please their gods, they will turn against their followers and punish them. In a special game mode called „god’s wrath“ one player in each team takes the role as a god. His team mates have to send their citizens to sacral buildings to pray and to sacrifice resources to strengthen their god who can use this strength to support their team mates.
Another great feature is the involvement of the community regarding the map-creation and the AI-development. Creative users can use the open map-creator to design and share their own maps. Other players can download and rate these maps. The best maps are featured and taken into the games. A public API for AI-players provides the possibility to script your own computer enemies. Those scripts can also be shared and rated.
A Geek’s Warfare offers a great depth of gameplay for hardcore gamers: additionally to the ordinary strategy gameplay, players have to refine their resources, care for their citizens and carefully choose what they research.
There are also heroes who can support armies. They are not only very strong units, they also possess special abilities like buffing nearby units or powerful attack skills. Those heroes get experience points for every battle, they attended.
